Why Refugees Need Smartphones

While working in Greece, I was interviewed by a BBC Media Action Team for their report “Voices of Refugees” that looks at the information and communication needs of refugees and migrants along the (now closed) Balkan route in Europe. The report was recently published and it’s definitely worth reading.

You can download both the report and the executive summary here.

The team also produced a short video that gives you a glimpse into how refugees are using the smartphones while on their journey.

You should watch the video on your mobile phone for maximum effect.

No time to read the report? You can also read a longish blog post about the research here.
