How is social media changing disaster response? The presentation explores how social media is both disruptive and transformative for both organizations responding to large scale disasters and for the affected people themselves.
Social media requires organizations such as NGOs, UN agencies and Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to adapt. It also empowers affected people to have a stronger voice and play a stronger role in their own self recovery.
This presentation was given at the “International Conference on Social Media for Good” in Istanbul on 16 May 2015.
Please note: we will touch on all of these issue in my upcoming training: “Technology for Disaster Response“.
